Paleo Aztec Hot Chocolate

I first discovered this recipe for an Aztec Hot Chocolate on a recent shoot and it didn’t take me long before i turned this recipe in to a paleo version of Aztec Hot Chocolate. This hot drink is not only delicious, it also packs a mighty nutritional punch! It’s packed with phytonutrients, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. It also has the added bonus of containing calcium which is particularly important for us paleo folk. I personally find that the only nutrient i seem to lack in my diet since turning paleo is calcium so consuming one of these as a after dinner treat is the perfect way to top up those calcium levels.

Give this one a try guys and let me know your thoughts 🙂

  • 300ml Almond Milk
  • 100g 70% Cocoa Dark Chocolate
  • 1 Cinnamon stick
  • A Scattering of Chilli
  • 2 Seeded Cardamon Pods
  • 1 Table Spoon of Local Honey

  2. Add the chocolate and then whisk in to mixture until melted
  3. Strain out the spices, sit back and enjoy

  3. Good one, Sid!

Does the type of chocolate matter? Can milk chocolate be used instead?

    1. It wouldnt be paleo if you used milk chocolate however I’m sure it would still work as a recipe. Give it a try and let me know how you get on 🙂

      2. I struggled with dark chocolate when I turned paleo too. I’d it helps the honey in the recipe does really help to even out the bitterness of dark chocolate

    1. Just a little scattering of chilli so you get a hint of it in the chocolate. But if chilli isn’t your thing you can omit it 🙂
