A step by step guide to making gnocchi

This post unfortunately is not paleo, but i had so much fun learning how to make gnocchi that i thought i would share this. On a recent test shoot i worked with food stylist Rosie Mackean and Prop Stylist Faye Wears to shoot a step to step guide on how to make gnocchi. Here it is in 8 simple steps:

Step 1

Boil, Peel and mash 4 large potatoes, place on to your worktop and create a well shape in your mound of mash potato

 Step 2

In to the well, insert flour and an egg

Step 3

Combine all the ingredients and kneed to form a dough

Step 4

Shape the dough in to one long cylinder shape

Step 5

Cut the dough into smaller rectangular pieces roughly about 1 inch in width

Step 6

Roll the cylinder into a long thin cylinder shapes, roughly about 1 inch in thickness

Step 7

Cut the dough in to 1 inch gnocchi sized pieces

Step 8

Use a gnocchi ridger paddle board to create ridges in the gnocchi. Alternatively you could use a fork!

Boil for a couple of minutes and then cook in your sauce of choice. Our final shot is Gnocchi with Vongole-hertitage datterini which was prepared and expertly cooked by Rosie Mackean

  7. It is actually possible to make true Paleo gnocchi with the mix of coconut flour, ground pumpkin seeds and flax flour based on different steamed non starchy vegetables. I had to make them for a friend to very strict dietary specifications. So anything is possible in Paleo version! Thanks for beautiful step by step photography.
